Serene has been a writer and journalist most of her life, starting in high school when she wrote music articles for a surfing magazine and at university, where she was the first student editor of the uni paper. Since then she has worked for many publications, from the West Australian newspaper to New Idea, Cosmo, Dolly, Woman's Day, Hot Metal and Spheres magazines, writing on topics ranging from health, travel, spirituality and environmental issues to music and entertainment. She has also contributed chapters to two books by Fiona Horne, as well as the international book release Dateline.
