The Magical Rituals of Brasil

Wednesday December 2, 2009

The new issue of Spheres magazine is out, with a guide for 2010 (can't believe another year is almost over!), an enchanted faery story by Lucy Cavendish, and my travel story about Brasil. It's a fascinating country, with a deep spirituality, and I loved every moment, from the breathtaking Iguacu Falls to the central jungles to the beaches and my two weeks with John of God.

For this story I wrote about the magical rituals I encountered in the northern city of Salvador, in Bahia, such as the strange, Marilyn Manson-esque leaving of wax body parts at a healing shrine, an evening of Candomble frenzy, and the beauty of the orixas, the gods and goddesses of the people of the north east.

You can find out more about Spheres magazine here, and read my story here.
