The first Seven Sacred Sites article!

Tuesday November 4, 2008

The book has been on sale in Margaret River, WA, for the last week or two, and there was a story about it in the local paper, thanks to Mum :-) It was so strange being interviewed and written about, after a lifetime of writing about other people, and so very odd to read a story about me... You can read the story here.

Mind Body Spirit Festival

Monday November 10, 2008

I’m just starting to catch up on sleep after the Mind Body Spirit Festival, where I shared a stall with my sweet fairy friend Lucy Cavendish. I launched Seven Sacred Sites and Lucy offered her beautiful Oracle of the Dragonfae deck as well as her other magical creations, including the As Above, So Below CD, her White Magic book and the Oracle Tarot and Magical Spell Cards decks.
We helped author Caiseal Mor and his artist wife Helen Wells put up their yurt, laughed a lot with our gorgeous crystal friend and travelling companion Rachelle Charman, were inspired by the lovely Elisabeth Jensen and her work with Egyptian energies, breathed in our heady brew of essential oils and fresh gardenias, and chatted to a wonderful woman from New Zealand, Sharon, a healer and traveller who runs a company called Lifestyle Journeys. They coordinate trips to some of the most beautiful places on the planet – some of which feature in my book – such as Machu Picchu and Peru, Tibet, Sedona and the Camino in Spain. Some include ceremonies with indigenous wisdom keepers, others have healings, multi-lingual guides and deep local insights. If you’d rather share your adventures with like-minded souls than travel alone, check out their site...

The card deck

Friday November 14, 2008

For the Mind Body Spirit Festival I created a card deck – just one copy – to accompany the book, just as something for people to play with so they could get a feel for the content of the book and the magic of the earth expressed within it. As it turned out, I could have sold twice as many card decks as books! :-) So it seems that this will be my next project, birthing them into the world in physical form.
The cards are not so much about where you should go physically – although feel free to be inspired to travel! – but more about the wisdom inherent in that place, the lessons it teaches and the way you can incorporate its energy into your life. We had a great time playing with them, and were most amused when Lucy drew the Connect With Animals card, then proceeded to act out her moose dance, playful cat, wild bear and other cute creatures over the four days. She was surprised when she became aware of just how connected to animals she is :-)

Story in Spheres magazine

Thursday November 20, 2008

Travel editor Jo mentioned Seven Sacred Sites in her pages this issue, and included a feature on the book. I’ve interviewed people, such as Doreen Virtue and John Edward, for Spheres in the past, so it was weird (but nice!) to see a story about me :-) You can read the story here.
I went to a “Marketing: The author as a brand” seminar on Friday, which was fascinating, and slightly daunting. Toastmasters anyone? There were some fantastic speakers there, and it was great to hear advice and inspiration from people who are selling millions of books worldwide (author Pamela Freeman), as well as publicists and booksellers who know a lot about other facets of the book business...
It sure is a steep learning curve, but I’m having a great time learning and growing and forcing myself to embrace new and difficult challenges. I did start a Facebook page, on their advice, to join my cute gothic-butterfly MySpace page, and have a few other leads to follow up... And then hopefully I’ll have time to start writing again!

Back to the source

Tuesday November 25, 2008

On the November full moon, my sweet friend Cameron took his copy of Seven Sacred Sites to Glastonbury with him, to stay in the Chalice Well Gardens retreat house and sit by the sacred well that so inspired the book – a manifestation of my inspiration returning to part of the source :-) It was a little chillier by the well in November, dark at 5pm, and so icy his hands froze, but beautiful none-the-less, in a slightly frostier, darker kind of way...
